Children's literature is not for the weak. It is a ruthless cutthroat business with lots of gnashes of the teeth. Children's librarianship, in contrast, is a sweet sweet ride. Now you can hear me as I growl, gargle, and kvetch my way through news, reviews, and interviews. Kidlit podcasting = scary new world.
Me too. I wish they'd listed them. I suppose an enterprising person could find out from the school district itself, but that sounds like a lot of work. I'll have my pool boy do it after he peels me a grape.
I checked out the district's website & it looks like a number of letters were sent out to parents before the school year ended emphasizing the importance of this assignment. The assignment docs on also online, and it looks like (except for AP/Honors English in the high school) the students could read any book they wanted; it was required to read but not required to read a certain book (I'm going strictly by what was online.) http://www.lancasterisd.org/displayarticle.asp?ID=8
I don't think what they did would encourage reading for pleasure; but it looks like the school's emphasis is more on reading skills than reading for fun.
Well, that makes sense. The ABC news article said that this was all because of No Child Left Behind. Hence the emphasis on skills rather than pleasure.
I'm curious as to what the assigned readings were.
