Children's literature is not for the weak. It is a ruthless cutthroat business with lots of gnashes of the teeth. Children's librarianship, in contrast, is a sweet sweet ride. Now you can hear me as I growl, gargle, and kvetch my way through news, reviews, and interviews. Kidlit podcasting = scary new world.
I don't know if our area (SF Bay Area) has these high-priced tutors, but I know that there are lots of parents who wished there were. I tutor creative writing, and I charge $20/hour for a small group, and these parents are waiting in line to shell out this money. And then they all want advice on how to get their 10-year old into an Ivy League school.
I do not think you can blame New York City for this. Perhaps the parents, perhaps the teens, but not the city.
ReplyDeleteI know. But what other city contains such critters as these?

ReplyDeleteHey, I read that article, Fuse, and thought...hmmm...sounds like a darn good job :)
ReplyDeleteOh, don't think that didn't occur to me. Let's see. How much do you think parents would shell out for me to teach their children basic library skills?
ReplyDelete*sigh*
Yeah. That's what I thought too.
