The Name of This Blog Becomes More and More Appropos

This link was quite possibly the best birthday present I received yesterday.

My nickname is Betsy. My father once owned a car by the same name. I don't like to draw a connection here but the coincidence always struck me as significant. Now, however, I can see that at least he wasn't alone.

Thanks to Beth for the heads up.

  1. My first (and only) car was named Betsy as well. I named her after Psylocke from the X-Men. ;-)

  2. And, of course, you're also the no. 1 name of choice for movie cowboys looking for something to name their rifle.

My little grey car is named Hunca Munca, but my friends and (librarian!) colleagues have all led a sadly Beatrix-Potter-less life, and don't get the reference.

  4. Sarah: Hunca Munca is a great name for a car! I'm impressed. My car is called Pandora. My husband wanted to name the car "Kosh" (a Babylon 5 character), but at the time, he didn't have his driver's license... so I said, "When you learn to drive, you can call the car whatever you like."

(He got his driver's license three weeks before our baby was born.)

Bwa ha ha...vindication at last. I've named both the cars I've had -- Old Grey Mare, because she was old and grey and she ain't what she used to be; and Darth Vader, more often called Mr. Vader when I'm trying to show respect.

My husband, though, refuses and makes fun. (I call his car, a hybrid, Sparky.) At last, at last, proof that I'm not alone, even if I am in the minority. Thanks for posting this!

After hanging a Pirates of the Caribbean light-up skull key chain (FREE! from a box of Pops cereal) from the rear-view mirror (which I realize may be a teeny bit against the law, but, um, haven't you ever hung a car freshener, pair of fuzzy dice, or graduation tassel from YOUR mirror? Hmm?)...anyway, after that, I christened my electric blue car The Blue Pearl. Aaarrrgh, mateys!
P.S. Hunca Munca? I love you! Those bad mice make me laugh every time with their hijinks.

And what's best is that the car (an Echo)is shaped like a little mouse crouching forward, so Hunca Munca is even more appropriate. :)
