They'd work it over, publish it; then the write would send his second book (about plankton!) to the ed, and they'd work it over, publish it, so forth and so on through the fourth, fifth, sixth book.

Meanwhile, the author gained a bit of a presence with each book, and by the time the sixth or seventh came out, the write was established(thanks in part to his ed's copious editorial input), and the bottom line was satisfied.

Now, of course, the bottom line waits for no man's sixth book.

Sooooo, eds, those deviously sneaky lovers of good writing, are signing up series books left and right (and that's precisely what they tell the marketing folks---there's huge money in a six book series, Ralph---think Hank Potter!!!!!), which works to everybody's satisfaction:

the ed gets to mentor the write

the write gets braggin' rights to a six book deal

and the marketing people are forcasting a beautyful bottom line...by the time the fifth or sixth book comes out down the line.....

ZAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15089389.post-1145224127630524312006-04-16T17:48:00.000-04:002006-04-16T17:48:00.000-04:00The lack of women bugged me as well. Carman kept the doting but didn't bother to kill off the mom. Just made her impossible to reach. Book Two is more of the same but starts breaking the rules already established. Remember when Alexa says that she never spoke to an animal again at the end of Book One? Yeah, that's a lie. Big time.fusenumber8https://www.blogger.com/profile/16216979020263363698noreply@blogger.com
