Was that Solstice poem a part of that?

I never considered "The Dark Is Rising" to be #2, necessarily. I mean, it happens basically at the same time as "Over Sea, Under Stone", so I think they're both one and two. And I just personally made some 20 kids in summer school read that story as part of our ongoing book discussion. We'll see how they take it. They were complained that "Millions" was too dull for them. I'm writing a book set around Nelson-y times, so I read it for some good ship-action inspiration, but ended up getting far more entangled in Molly's story. When the Thing happened towards the end at the Pond (hope that's vague enough to avoid spoilers) - I just burst into tears. A lovely moment.lilihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03362725678748958671noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15089389.post-1153771437460722072006-07-24T16:03:00.000-04:002006-07-24T16:03:00.000-04:00Here's the thing (brace for terrible, shocking rev...Here's the thing (brace for terrible, shocking revelation)I've not read the The Dark is Rising books. I know. I've had this life-long obsession with chronology, so when I was a kid I started Over Sea, Under Stone and was painfully bored. Everyone says start with The Dark Is Rising, but I can't get past the fact that it is actually book 2, and have therefore, put off reading them all these long years... bad librarian. bad. I'm hoping that when I finally get a copy of Victory, it will spur me to read them. I do love a good "kid on ship" book.Jackie Parkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11142876691306805769noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15089389.post-1153749332957191062006-07-24T09:55:00.000-04:002006-07-24T09:55:00.000-04:00I really loved Victory. Susan Cooper, among her myriad glories, has also written perhaps the best Solstice poem of modern times. Search "The Shortest Day" and you will see what I mean.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
