The longer ones I read to him, but it's wonderful to have ones that he likes to read all himself -- the A-to-Z Mysteries and such do a reasonable job of filling that need, and I'm glad they're there, but how wonderful to find real literature with some depth and shading, that he'll remember and talk about and truly love!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15089389.post-47319246129653791742007-02-19T15:27:00.000-05:002007-02-19T15:27:00.000-05:00Wow, I am stunned by the wonderful words. Indeed, Rickshaw Girl was my first illustrated chapter book. although I've been in the illustration field for over 25 years, from billboards to packaging to textbook illustration. It was my gift to illustrate such a well-written story and now immensely gratifying to get such positive and specific feedback. I know that there must be quality early chapter books, but it seems like because they don't get a lot of attention, one doesn't hear much about them. I am planning on actively seeking out and reviewing books aimed at that 7 - 9 year old reader--not emotionally mature enough for the heavier topics, but able to handle better and more complex writing and vocabulary.

This was already on my list to read, but you sealed the deal.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03789250398792504412noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15089389.post-5269759031500781932007-02-18T16:45:00.000-05:002007-02-18T16:45:00.000-05:00Aw, heck. I'm with Betsy -- I'm always on the lookout for meaningful early chapter books. Congratulations on having written one.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
