For one semester I played the violin and this image reminds me of junior high music class.Kyrahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12753849992598813120noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15089389.post-65207507993945526902007-04-17T17:36:00.000-04:002007-04-17T17:36:00.000-04:00OK, I see what you mean. The end of your review ("Watch Eleanora Tate in the future...this may be her beginning") took me by surprise because it sounds like something you'd say about a first-time author!
BTW, I didn't get a chance to comment on your "Kid's Music That Rocks" piece, but are you familiar with the Mother Goose Rocks CD's? They're great! They have 5 CD's of famous children's song as they would be done by pop stars--such as The Little Old Lady Who Lived in a Shoe done by Share, Hey Diddle Diddle by Babbling Brooks (Garth Brooks), or The Wheels on the Bus by Mad Donna. We often use The Hokey Pokey by Dan Tanna in our storytimes. They have a terrific website, www.mothergooserocks.com, that has links to some of their songs and videos. There's a hysterical video of Mono with ME2 doing Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15089389.post-39578578079593809812007-04-17T16:55:00.000-04:002007-04-17T16:55:00.000-04:00True, she has plenty of books out there. Hopefully she'll keep writing older middle grade like this one.fusenumber8https://www.blogger.com/profile/16216979020263363698noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15089389.post-45147823561340243892007-04-17T11:36:00.000-04:002007-04-17T11:36:00.000-04:00Loved your review. But I wonder--have you ever read any of Eleanora Tate's books before? She's been around a while. Did you ever read Thank You, Dr. Maritn Luther King? We can't keep it on our shelves during Black History Month. How about The Secret Of Gumbo Grove? It's another of those stays-with-you books, especially her story, her unforgettable characters, and descriptions of the Myrtle Beach, South Carolina area. Read them if you get the chance. I hope she comes to New York some time--I got to meet her once at the library's Novello Festival of Reading and she's a wonderful person.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15089389.post-29304140261046638852007-04-17T09:55:00.000-04:002007-04-17T09:55:00.000-04:00Steal away. Some first lines don't really cut the mustard, if you know what I mean.fusenumber8https://www.blogger.com/profile/16216979020263363698noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15089389.post-61151523828732689852007-04-17T08:15:00.000-04:002007-04-17T08:15:00.000-04:00So true, that point about historical books where t...So true, that point about historical books where the protagonist meets someone famous. It's gotten so I'll actually shy away from certain books because I can practically smell the historical contrivance from a distance.

I also like your inclusion of the first lines, since they do set a tone and give you an instant feel for a book. I'm going to seriously consider stealing this idea.david elzeyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16653215150526146224noreply@blogger.com
