Children's literature is not for the weak. It is a ruthless cutthroat business with lots of gnashes of the teeth. Children's librarianship, in contrast, is a sweet sweet ride. Now you can hear me as I growl, gargle, and kvetch my way through news, reviews, and interviews. Kidlit podcasting = scary new world.

Chew On This
Toys get recalled with a frightening regularity, but I've never had the recollection of witnessing a recall of a picture book for safety reasons. Now I have. Looks like Simon and Schuster's Curious Buddies series has been recalled because the felt pop-up characters, "may pose a choking hazard to children". It's what I've always suspected. Bad children's books are a danger in and unto themselves.
Found your blog via Four Obsessions; it's wonderful to have a good resource for children's fiction!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree about bad children's books, BTW... :)
Nice to have you. And, I must say, I'm envious of your own blog's fabulous banner at the top. I really have to get around to doing that at some point.
ReplyDeleteJulie at Bookworm designed it for me; she's a marvel at that sort of thing, if you ever get around to wanting to do something different.
