Children's literature is not for the weak. It is a ruthless cutthroat business with lots of gnashes of the teeth. Children's librarianship, in contrast, is a sweet sweet ride. Now you can hear me as I growl, gargle, and kvetch my way through news, reviews, and interviews. Kidlit podcasting = scary new world.

The ALA List of Books
I love long rolicking recommended book lists. And the ALA List of books recommended for the upcoming gift-giving season is here for 2006. Some interesting choices spot the list. I hadn't even really heard of Sue Corbett's Free Baseball, and The Entrance Place of Wonders: Poems of the Harlem Renaissance as selected by Daphne Muse has never crossed my doorstep. More to read, I see.
Thanks for the link. I am so happy to see THE YEAR OF THE DOG on the list.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read YOON AND THE CHRISTMAS MITTEN yet. I do hope it's as good as MY NAME IS YOON. I loved that book--and Gabi's illustrations in it.
"Christmas Mitten" is definitely... interesting. We had a wild rousing debate about it at work. Some found it deeply offensive. Others found it touching. I may or may not review it here. It's cause for great debate, to say the least.
ReplyDeleteI loved Free Baseball, Betsy! I definitely recommend it. I liked it quite a bit more than Sue Corbett's previous book (I didn't dislike that one, but I loved FB).
ReplyDeleteWell, I've checked it out of the library accordingly. Turns out we had two copies in my branch. Guess I'll have to see what all the fuss is about. If you liked it, though, that's a very good sign.
