Great Garage Sale Finds

Apparently if you're a Scot living in London the kidlit images you find in charity shops and car boot sales (car boot sales?) are better than their Yank equivalents.

For more, check it out.

Via Children's Illustration, of course.

Thanks for posting these images. They're great!
I posted a response to your question regarding the libraries in Charlotte. To see how good they are, go back to your posting of 1-03 and look under the comments.
And just what is a "car boot sale" anyway?

See, that's what I'm trying to figure out. Boot = trunk, right? So do they have car trunk sales where they display things in the back of their Minis? Seems unlikely.

Thanks for the info on Charlotte as well. As you rightly surmised, I'm not so great with checking older posts.

wow! what a blast from my past: i once owned that code book! came with a little piece of red celophane so you could put it over words and prases in the book and read them. ah, the scholastic book club...

as for boot sales, yeah, folks would line up their cars and seel things out of the boot, er, trunk. cars would line up and people would open the boot and diplay things in, around and just outside. many older euro cars had their boot up front, and they would just sell stuff out of their minis. some still do.

I, too, had that code book from Scholastic. Loved it. Played with it for hours. I hung onto so many of those tatty, dusty, well-loved books. Oddly enough, I grew up to run one of Scholastic's book clubs and got to see all the great club books of my childhood littering shelves and drawers. It was rather special!
