Best Music of the Year

With all the Kirkus, SLJ, Horn Book, etc. lists out there, I know you pretty people may be feeling just a tad, uh, listless.

Hee hee hee hee hee hee hee.

Bad joke. Moving on.

One list you may not have set your pretty peepers on quite yet is the blog awarded The Top 16 Kids and Family Albums of 2006. Now, I have to admit that I am not as familiar with some of the children's music blogs out there. My co-worker Warren runs the Children's Music That Rocks blog (and recently posted his own Top 20 albums of the year), and I usually look no further for my kidnote needs. Yesterday, however, Warren turned me on to the Fids and Kamily - Kids and Family Music Awards. It's like the Cybils, but for children's music. With a distinguished panel of judges at the helm ranging from Zoogobble and Spare the Rock, Spoil the Child (best. title. ever.) to The Lovely Mrs. Davis Tells You What To Think and Gooney Bird Kids, amongst many many others, this intelligent crew has created the ultimate in choice 2006 children's music titles. Here is what they came up with:

Meltdown! - Justin Roberts
You Are My Little Bird - Elizabeth Mitchell
Catch That Train! - Dan Zanes
Fascinating Creatures - Frances England
Animal Crackers - Wee Hairy Beasties
Electric Storyland - The Sippy Cups
Hey You Kids! - The Jellydots
Rock Your Socks Off - Charity and the JAMband
The Great Adventures of Mr. David - Mr. David
Celebrate the Difference - Terri Hendrix
Plays Well With Others - Uncle Rock
Colours Are Brighter - Various Artists
Macaroni Boy Eats at Chez Shooby Doo - Ginger Hendrix
Prelude to Mutiny - Captain Bogg & Salty
When I Get Little - Dog On Fleas
The Family Hootenanny - Various Artists

If you find your library's kid music shelves a bit parched, look no further than these frolicsome titles.
