Smoke On the Water, With a Ruby On the Side

For those of you currently rending your garments after learning that only Britain was getting to enjoy the charms of the Sally Lockhart filmed miniseries beginning with The Ruby In the Smoke, rend no longer. It appears that on Sunday, February 4th, PBS will show the series here in the U.S. Here's the description:
Sally Lockhart is a feisty sixteen-year-old on a mission to discover the truth behind her father's death and unravel the secret behind the deadly phrase 'the seven blessings.' A gripping tale of mystery, danger, puzzling letters and a jewel soaked in blood, the story is set in the heart of Victorian London. Whitbread Award-winning author Philip Pullman's novel has been adapted by BAFTA winner Adrian Hodges. In addition to Billie Piper (Doctor Who) as Sally, the cast includes the Oscar-nominated Julie Walters, as well as David Harewood, Hayley Atwell, JJ Feild and Ramon Tikaram.
I was given this book as a child but couldn't get into it, I'm ashamed to say. A rereading years later caused me to love it like it was my own, though I never got beyond the very first book.
