Straight To Video Fears o' Mine
When the children's news day is slow and I can't find anything halfway decent to report, I turn in my time of need to J.L. Bell who always has something interesting to say, and usually on a daily basis. Today Bell talks of the recent Variety magazine article on the filming of Philip Pullman's Golden Compass. Bell has some good point about anti-authority figures in movies and which ones we're allowed to see/root for. The most frightening part of the post, however? The possibility that The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass could go straight to video. Hey, man. It happened to The Thief Lord.

I didn't know The Thief Lord was on video!
Nobody does. Hence my worry re: His Dark Materials.
I'm having difficulty believing this. Anathema!
(Lizzy, I had to ask Blockbuster to special order the Thief Lord--they'd not heard of it.)
Tell me how it is when you see it. My feeling is that it can't be all that pleasing but I could be wrong.
I'm not a Funke fan, but when I heard about the Thief Lord dvd, I got it for my eleven-year-old daughter, Alexandria, who is. I didn't find it very interesting, but Alex enjoyed it and thought it was well done. But I'd say she gets it out to watch slightly less often as she requests the Series of Unfortunate Events dvd and way less than any given H.P. dvd.....
I'm getting psyched about The Golden Compass. I hope they don't bungle the ending if they are unsure about sequels. (This seems to have been the case with the Series of Unfortunate Events....)
