Evolution of the Speech Balloon

Like you never wondered how they came about. The birth of the graphic novel finds its beginnings in "speechbands" circa 1404. The more you know, eh?

A wonderful item, and it provides me with an excuse to say how much I love your blog, which is erudite, sexy, and hip. I normally do not associate these words with writing about children's books, which is, for the most part, prim, conventional, and dull.

Awwww. Thanks, Jon. My blog is sexy! Mother will be so pleased. I know just the way you can thank me too. Get your fabulous "Noisy Counting Book" back in print. I know you've tried in the past but, Jon, I'm desperate. Last Monday I had four different parents screetching at one another for the privilage of the being the first to merely look at our Reference copy. Reference! Not even circulating! Jon, we need more copies of this book and the only way to get 'em is to wrangle the book's publisher to the floor and make them reprint it. Who was it anyway? Maybe I know someone I can beg.
