The Kidman/Coulter Connection Confirmed

Hey, man. If Philip Pullman thinks Nicole Kidman would do well in the part (and he's said as much on the Child_Lit listserv) then who are we to say otherwise? Besides, all you yuksters who think she's evil to begin with should be happy that she's been typecast as such.

Thanks, as always, to bookshelves of doom for the link.

What I don't get is Paul Bettany as Lord Asrael. Pullman wants Jason Isaacs. C'mon, who's scarier: the imaginary friend in "A Beautiful Mind" or Lucius Malfoy?

I think Bettany is a strange pick as well -- but I'm over-the-moon about Kidman! Whee!

Bettany is beautiful, but wouldn't it make a lot more sense to make him one of the angels in the third book? The guy was born to make use of that pale pale skin. Besides, the child born of Bettany and Kidman would have to be the whitest child on the globe.

The danger with casting Jason Isaacs is that I might hyperventilate midway through the picture and miss the ending. It's a risk I'm willing to take.
