Summer Rites

There are always discussions about those lazy children's summer books. Your Penderwicks. Your Elizabeth Enrights. Your Dandelion Wines. Your (dare I say it?) Criss Crosses. Hope Larson of the lovely Gray Horses had a piece in the New York Times recently entitled Little House In the Big Woods. Consider it yet another summer addition.

Dandelion Wine, she protested futiley, is NOT a children's book! (Dammit, just because it has a kid protagonist...)

Yes, mom. But thanks to you I read it as a child. Ha HAHAHAHA! Therefore, from a purely egotistical standpoint it most certainly IS a children's book and I would place it in my children's collection here if I had the power to do so. If kids are reading 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea then they can certainly read a little Bradbury as well.
