Happy FLD, You Wacky Canucks!
Today is Family Literacy Day in Canada. Celebrate by reading your favorite Canadian.
Um....
Brain fried. Cannot think of authors.
Okay, new plan. Celebrate by naming your favorite Canadian. I can think of Polly Horvath. How 'bout you?

Hey, wait a minute! There are TONS of Canadian children's authors. Just ask one of NYPL's resident canadians! The obvious - Kathy Stinson, Robert Munsch, Gordon Korman, Jean Little, Barbara Reid - are a good place to start.
As a Canadian, I thank you, Kittenpie. You, Ms. FuseNumberEight, have some work to do. L.M. Montgomery? Mordecai Richler? (if you honestly don't know Jacob Two Two Meets the Hooded Fang I shall have to have a word with your mother)Pierre Berton, Phoebe Gilman, Iain Lawrence, Kenneth Oppel, and a personal favourite in our house given my son's name is Matthew, Allen Morgan.
It is probably not well known that Robertson Davies wrote the libretto for a children's opera called Doctor Cannon's Cure, but as I do know this having been a member of Canadian Childrens Opera Chorus for its inaugural production in 1980, I am including him here.
As Jean Little's biggest fan, all I can say is, HEY!
Art Slade (who really belongs on your Hot Men list)
Favorite Canadian - Pstr. James MacDonald
Margaret Atwood!
Yup. I was being lazy. No contest. And just LOOK at all these nice names that other people brought up. It's a Family Literacy Day miracle!
My favorite is probably Mr. Korman.
Mike Myers.
Yeah, baby.
Oh dear. Just as long as we don't have to celebrate by reading "Love You Forever"!
Farley Mowat, W.O. Mitchell, Dennis Lee, Maxine Trottier, Shelley Tanaka, Barbara Greenwood, Sheree Fitch, Roch Carrier...
My favorite Canadian is my husband. It's his birthday today, too, so I'm sure he'll be extra thrilled.
I've only read one book by her (The doll mage) but it was so excellent I'm naming Martine Leavitt.
Martine Leavitt's book Heck Superhero was beautiful (as was Doll Mage)! Also, Tim Wynn-Jones, who is in the Guiness Book of World Records for the largest reading ever -- he read with J.K. Rowling.
Canucks.

Actually, Polly Horvath is an American living in Canada but not a Canadian citizen.
