How'd We Miss This One?
With the recent Cybils announcement, you would think that would round out the year's 2006 booklists. I just noticed, however, a list that came out in Publisher's Weekly that got very little press back on January 22nd. Ever heard of the Cuffies?
For our annual "Off the Cuff" awards, we asked retailers around the country for their picks in a variety of categories. The winners (and selected bookseller comments) appear below.Fair enough. Somewhat similar to the Golden Fuse Awards, but we won't hold that against them. Some of the categories caught my fancy as well:
And of course, my favorite ...Most Disappointing Book (in Terms of Sales)
The Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor ("we liked it, but it just didn't sell")
"Someone asked for Goodnight Gorilla in audio—it's a wordless book."
"Your versions of fairytales are all too modern. I want something more traditional—like Disney."
More are in the piece itself.About the I Spy books: "Do you have one that looks more masculine?"

I like the cuffies b/c PW interviews children's bookseller, from children's bks stores. The list is always on point.
I love the Library Lion. I think I am going to have to read Rick Riordan's Lighting Thief.
and this is totally off topic but I just discovered Babymouse yesterday. I love her.
Can someone please tell me what bunnies have to do with Easter. Our store is getting a boat load of em. And can someone please tell me why boardbks are getting so big?
