No Kiddie-Lit, But Nothing Too Shabby

The NBCC Board of Directors has issued their own list of the best works of American fiction in the last 25 years. It's a reply to the earlier New York Times list. No children's books, of course, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that Little, Big by John Crowley just slipped under the 25-year-minimum wire to secure itself a slot. Should you happen to be unfamiliar with the title, the best description might be that it was Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell before there was a Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell. I consider it a necessary read for any children's literature lover who happens to have a yen for fantasy. There's an interview with Crowly at brothercyst, if you need more info. Plus the book has a changeling. Gotta love a good changeling.
