Call To Authors
Hey, kids. The Children’s Africana Book Award program, run by the K-12 Outreach Council of the African Studies Association is calling for entries for their 2007 award. I thought some of you might like to be aware of the program, as well as the requirements. As such, here's an e-mail I received from them recently.
The Children’s Africana Book Awards were established in 1991 by the Outreach Council of the African Studies Association to encourage the publication and use of accurate, balanced children’s materials on Africa in U.S. schools and libraries. Forty- nine books have been honored through 2006. A committee of six Outreach Council members, including specialists in K-12 curriculum development and university-based scholars, made the selection for the 2006 awards after reviewing numerous books submitted by U.S. publishers or distributors. Publishers of books on African themes copyrighted in 2006 are invited to review Nomination Process guidelines for the 2007 awards http://africaaccessreview.org/caba.cfm. Titles submitted for 2007 award consideration should be mailed to the nominating committee by December 31, 2006.
The aims of the Outreach Council of ASA are to share and disseminate resources about Africa; exchange experiences on best practices in conducting outreach activities, educate the public about Africa; and facilitate the exchange of ideas, information and research findings on Africa. The African Studies Association is a non-profit organization founded in 1957 and open to all persons and institutions interested in African affairs. The goals of the organization are to bring together persons with scholarly and professional interest in Africa, to provide information and support services to schools, businesses, media, and communities at large, to publish and distribute scholarly materials on Africa, and to promote the study of Africa.
