New Yorker Is Animating Its Cartoons

To which we disapprove. Heartily. Wired disapproves as well, for that matter. I still like me my cartoons now and then, but give me the New Yorker Anti-Caption Contest any day of the week over oddly embarrassing animated shorts.

Thanks to the Powell's Blog for the link.

Where the famed NYer cartoons are concerned someone at the magazine (or possibly a committee... yes, this has the hallmarks of a committee...) has decided to kill this goose and get that &%$##@ golden egg. It goes beyond calendars and mugs and books and mousepads and notepads. We can all live with those! But the animated cartoons; the Cartoon Bank; the cartoons for sale online with whatever idiot caption you feel like spending $50 on; the artists doing ads for the most banal products you can imagine; and who knows what else. A line must be drawn. No pun intended.
