He's Dead. Get Over It.
Is that harsh? Well, two different blogs are making the case that Dumbledore didn't die. The first is at Oasis. The second at Petrona to say nothing of these "clues" found on Dumbledore Is Not Dead. I think it's time to deal with the real issue here, people. Dumbledore is dead. He's joined the choir invisible. If they hadn't buried him in a tomb he'd be pushing up the daisies. This is an ex-Dumbledore!

I've just posted my counterarguments here...although I do think DinD has some well-thought-out arguments.
Yes. He is DEAD. Dead dead dead dead dead.
oops, that link didn't go through, use this one.
You people are just mean. He can't be dead. He isn't. Stop it.
I dunno, it seems pretty persuasive to me.
I was pretty firmly in the "Dumbledore is dead" camp until I read the links you posted. Now, I'm not so sure. I've switched to the "Dumbledore is dead unless proven otherwise in book 7" point of view (which, if I'm honest, is where I was all along). The debate itself says a lot about our hopes and beliefs in general. Dumbledore said to HP in an earlier book that the dead do not come back to life. But then, the phoenix imagery is pretty potent.
He is not dead. He's merely on vacation.
JKR confirmed at her reading in NYC tonight that Dumbledore is dead. Now, do you belive it?
Oh, yeah, like she knows so much. Still not buying it.
How about this argument then: One of the many themes in the book is death. Voldemort is evil for a lot of reasons, but one of the main ones includes the fact that he fears death and will do anything to stop from dying. In the past Dumbledore has pointed out that this is unnatural. Now imagine Rowling letting Dumbledore live, thereby contradicting everything her books have ever said about grief and death. Sheesh. Give the woman a little credit. In these books once you're dead, you're dead. Unless you're evil, of course. Does anyone want to make the argument that Dumbledore is evil?
I was hoping he was going to be like Gandalf and come back a stronger wizard or something. I think there are some publishers in China that are willing to follow a variety of storylines, no?
Yep, Dumbledore is dead. She said it last night in New York City. She also specifically said, "Don't expect him to pull a Gandalf."
But his "familiar" (if you will) is a phoenix for chrissake. I mean, come on.
His daemon, you mean! :)
I accept that Dumbledore will not pull off a Gandalf. I don't even think he'll pull off a Ben Kenobi. I hope the outcome surprises us, nonetheless.
Thanks for linking to my post! I am Petrona and my daughter Cathy is Oasis, so she'll be pleased to have re-started this debate. Cathy did mention to me this morning that J K Rowling herself has told the D is not D website that he is wrong. Oh dear. I'm staying in denial for a while yet, though. Thanks again for the link.
Maxine (aka Petrona)
Hi, Maxine. I hope my dead dead deadski tone didn't put you off. I did like your postings. Wouldn't have linked to them if I hadn't.
And Dan, what if in the last book Dumbledore pops out of his tomb and yells, "FOOLED YOU!" to everyone there and everyone lives happily ever after, the end? Let the poor man alone. Honestly, I though he was going to die in the third book before he did. It sounds morbid but when he called death "the next great adventure" (or words of that sort) in the first book I thought that would come back to haunt him sooner rather than later.
cathy at oasis here.
i read that thing about dumbledore not pulling a gandalf.... but its so hard to believe that he is really dead...
and if he is then... =[ oh no
