On my last birthday I got a present from Kelly Herold that was as follows:

With such supremely wonderful objects available in the world, it's always a little shocking to me when someone doesn't hold with the whole Triumvirate of Mediocrity (copyright Jane Yolen). Take, as your example, this particularly painful episode in the life of one of our own. Oh, Alkelda. My heart goes out to you, honey.

Best Thing Ever?

Pretty much. With Leila from bookshelves of doom conjuring up t-shirts on the subject, my heart was lightened considerably further when I saw this second entry in the Children's Books That Never Were series as featured on Saints and Spinners. It is my early birthday present and I couldn't be more pleased. To see The Giving Tree offering its despicable boy a "two-fingered salute" is balm to the very soul. And since all good things come in threes, top it all off with Gregory K's magnificent Oddapation for spice.
